Baptisms
Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. For all involved, particularly the candidates but also parents, godparents and sponsors, it is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the faith.”
St. Martin's offers a Baptism curriculum to assist parents and godparents in preparing for the Baptism of infants and young children. The curriculum consists of a preparatory meeting with the parents where parents and godparents will receive a copy of the journal Christ's Own Forever. Parents are asked to take time to review this journal prior to the baptism of their child(ren).
On a Saturday before the Baptism Sunday, parents will meet at the church to dialogue with each other about the Baptism experience. Godparents are also encouraged to attend to learn more about the Baptismal promises and how they can continue to support the child in their faith formation. The Saturday dialogue session will also provide an opportunity to "walk" through the Baptism service and help parents to more clearly understand their own commitment as well as the commitment of the parish family.
